Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a type of bodywork (i.e. massage) that has its origins in Japan around 1900 A.D. (or C.E.) It involved appyling direct pressure to the acupuncture points and meridians. There are also some joint mobilization techniques and stretching involved. The typical session takes 30 to 45 minutes and is done with loose fitting clothing while lying on the floor on a mat.

Cautions & Warnings

Some of the stretches and joint mobilization techniques can cause re-injury to a joint or muscle that was previously injured. Inform your Shiatsu practitioner of any injuries you might have to avoid further damage.
